Something I Miss
This is the 21st day of the blog challenge, and I have to admit that I have not done all the days. There were some days that I wrote about something else. There were also a couple of days that I missed. The 21st-day blog challenge asks “Something that I miss.”
I had to think a bit on what that was. It isn’t about someONE but someTHING. I am going to cheat a moment and think about experiences (I think that counts). I miss the entire family going to my parents house and hanging out all day. Talking and laughing while the kids played. We don’t do that anymore. My dad still lives there, but my mom now lives in Panama 90% of the time. The kids are now young adults and a few are already starting their own lives. Also, situations have caused a rift in a few families so that has also caused reunions to be far in between.
It’s one of the things that I love about going to Panama because my entire family still finds a way to see one another at least once a week. I know that the United States is massive compared to Panama, so it’s harder to do. However, it still makes me sad that we don’t do that as much. Even if one of us invites the other to do something, majority are already busy.
I also wonder sometimes if it’s because we are in the DC area. DC is a very fast-paced place. I remember visiting my younger sister when she was stationed in Arizona, and she told me that I was going to be annoyed. I asked her why, and she said, “People here are chill and are not always on the go like where we live.” She was right, but it also made me realize how we are “Go Go Go” in DC, and we sometimes let time pass us by without really enjoying it.
When someone used to ask how I was doing, I would always respond “Busy” like I deserved a prize cause I was. It was the same when you would talk the other people. “I am so busy.” You barely see your family and friends because everyone is “busy.” I have come to realize in the past few years that I don’t want to be known when I pass away as someone who was so busy that she didn’t have time for her family and friends. If I can, I always make time, and I never reschedule last minute, which is usually what people in this area tend to do. If I say that I will be there, I will unless there is an emergency that prevents me from getting there.
Hopefully one day the entire family can get together and stop being too busy to do so.
